FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

We know that choosing a high-performance mobility solution like the SCEWO BRO comes with important questions. This FAQ section provides clear answers on features, performance, safety, pricing, maintenance, delivery, and support.

BRO uses a sophisticated track system (crawlers) to ascend and descend staircases. When you activate “Stair Mode,” built-in sensors continuously scan the surrounding geometry. You simply push the joystick in your desired direction, and BRO handles the rest — including tilting the seat so that you remain upright and comfortable.
Stair-mode performance: up to 30 steps per minute, with a maximum single step height up to 200 mm, and permitted stair gradients between 20°–36° (36.4%–72.6%).
Note: Spiral staircases are not supported.
Minimum stair width (straight stairway) is ~760 mm, and minimum landing size (for an L-shaped / 90° turn) is 1,150 × 1,150 mm.

In “Drive Mode,” BRO runs on two large wheels and self-balances, eliminating the need for torso stability. It is capable of navigating curbs, uneven ground, and small obstacles. Its maximum speed depends on local legal regulations — in some regions up to 10 km/h.

Additional performance specs: turning diameter is 1,150 mm, and it can climb inclines up to 6° (about 10.5%) in drive mode.
Obstacle clearance is 50 mm under standard drive conditions.

It depends on the battery: with a 20Ah battery, typical use yields around 25 km; with a 30Ah battery, it can reach up to 35 km in real-world usage.
Charging times and charger specifications will depend on your configuration (we’ll provide full charging details when we configure your BRO).

BRO supports a maximum occupant weight (including any luggage or extra equipment) of 120 kg
Minimum recommended occupant weight is 40 kg.

Yes. One of BRO’s core innovations is its self-balancing two-wheel drive mode, which allows users to drive without needing upper-body or torso stability.
This makes it especially powerful for people who otherwise might not be able to use a traditional power wheelchair safely.

BRO is designed with portability in mind: its backrest can be folded, and with the remote loading system, you can load it into a car using a ramp or loading mechanism.
For air travel, folding and configuring the chair properly (and checking with the airline) is critical — we can guide you through your specific setup and restrictions.

  • We provide training on regular maintenance and safe operation at handover.

  • Our service team is certified — we can perform repairs, firmware updates, and preventive maintenance.

  • BRO supports software updates if connected to the Scewo app. Updates can add features, improve safety, and optimize performance over time.

In many regions, yes. BRO is recognized as a medical device with its own medical aid number in Germany, which simplifies insurance applications.
We support the entire funding process: from writing medical justifications, submitting prescriptions, to follow-up with insurers or national health authorities. If an initial application is denied, we assist with appeals or exploring alternative funding sources.

Because BRO is a high-value, often customized medical device, our return and cancellation policies are more restrictive (see our Return Policy). For example, once the seat is customized or the product is configured, returns may not be feasible. However, defects or warranty issues will be handled through our service channel, and we facilitate those processes.

Absolutely. We offer free, no-obligation test drives. You can book a session at your home or in our showroom, where you can try drive mode, stair climbing, and evaluate your preferred configuration.

Yes. The SCEWO BRO is designed for both indoor and outdoor use and performs well in a wide range of weather conditions. It features strong traction wheels, stable balance control, and a durable frame. Light rain, mild snow, and uneven terrain are manageable.
However, for safety and longevity, we recommend avoiding heavy rain, deep snow, or extremely slippery surfaces. Always store the wheelchair in a dry place after use.

A full charge typically takes 5–6 hours using the standard charger. Many users plug the wheelchair in overnight. The battery is engineered for high efficiency, allowing several hours of continuous mobility—even when using functions like stair-climbing or elevation.

The SCEWO BRO has been built with long-term durability in mind. Routine maintenance is minimal, but we recommend:

  • Checking tire wear every few months

  • Ensuring all screws and fittings remain tight

  • Keeping sensors clean for optimal stair detection

  • Scheduling a professional check-up once a year

Your purchase includes guidance on maintenance intervals and approved service centers.

If you ever experience a problem, our support team is ready to assist. Most issues can be resolved through remote diagnostics via the SCEWO app. For mechanical issues, we coordinate repairs through our authorized technician network. Warranty coverage ensures you’re protected for eligible defects within the coverage period.
